A Stroll Through Dupont Circle
One of the things I dislike about myself is that I don’t take full advantage of my surroundings. Too often I keep myself cooped up indoors, forgetting about the great things going on around me.
Fortunately, I didn’t have school today and managed to enjoy a very nice afternoon.
The plan was to walk downtown, pick up a few things at the Grooming Lounge, and pop into Gold’s Gym for a much needed workout.
A movie was being filmed just outside of the Grooming Lounge. I wasn’t able to get any details, but it reminded me of Austin. Something was always being filmed in and around Austin. A movie was also being filmed across the street from my office earlier this week. Not sure if it’s related.
My next stop was supposed to be the gym. I even packed work out clothes with me. But it was already after noon and I hadn’t had lunch. Now Ms. Jackie Warner of Bravo TV’s Work Out says you should never work out when you’re hungry because you won’t burn many calories.
Heeding that sage lesbian’s advice–she’s hot, so she must know a thing or two–I decided to forgo the gym. Besides, the walk from my Upper Dupont Circle (18th & S St.) apartment to downtown (18th & L St.) is quite a hike and a work out. It’s a full fucking mile! One way!
In need of nourishment, I ducked into a tiny little shop for a quick bite to eat. Holy, fucking cow. I have discovered the best thing ever. A little inexpensive place called Julia’s Empanadas on Connecticut Avenue, just south of Dupont Circle. This is going on my must-go-to list when in DC.
Walking through the Circle I encountered the remains of what had been a huge pillow fight. Feathers were everywhere. Turns out today is World Pillow Fight Day. Damn, and I had just missed it.
Since it was such a lovely afternoon, I decided to enjoy my lunch in the Circle.
A few minutes later, another crowd of young college-age kids arrived and started performing a cappella. The kids were very entertaining and must be part of some glee club. Many of them wore Stanford shirts, so maybe they’re on a school trip.
Clouds started rolling in and it got cold, so I picked up a coffee and window shopped up Connecticut Avenue on my way home.
